Horror Box Newsletter #1
Fortnight#1. February 2025
Spoiler Alert: If you haven’t yet opened your horror box…don’t scroll down yet. This is a box reveal newsletter.
Welcome to the Horror Box Community 💀
We couldn’t be more excited to have you here! The response to our very first Horror Box has been absolutely spine-chillingly amazing, and it’s all thanks to you—our horror-loving bookworms.
We’ve got three incredibly spine tingling books to unbox. But the big draw of this unboxing newsletter are three personalised notes, written exclusively for you by each of the authors we have featured. And we’re so excited to share them with you in this unboxing newsletter. But first lets get the basics out of the way.
Book Box meets Book Club + Community 💀
You didn’t just sign up for a book box—you joined a community of fearless readers who love to push the boundaries of horror. And that’s exactly what we’re here to do.
At The Horror Box, we’re re-imagining the experience of a Book Box meets Book Club meets Community. Here’s how:
🔮 Same Three Books, Shared Experience – Because we want to spark more conversations around these lesser-known yet brilliant horror stories.
🎭 Exclusive Bonus Content – Expect deleted chapters author interviews and personal author notes. And that’s just the beginning.
📱 A Horror Box App (Coming Soon!) – Imagine a space where you can start or join discussions around each book in the box, connect with fellow horror lovers, and share your thoughts in real time. That’s what we’re building next.
Through this journey we will build this community together. Which means you will have a say on the direction that this community takes going forward.
Let’s begin!

UNBOXING THE FEBRUARY BOX
The lead theme for this box is a sub-genre of horror that has been around for a while. Historical. And that led us to zero in on this hidden gem.
Book 1: Bone Harvest by James Brogden
We loved this book that merges the historical with a blend of folk horror.

Dennie Keeling spends her days tending her allotment, a quiet sanctuary in a life that has slowly unravelled. Her husband is gone, her children have moved on, and Sarah—her closest friend—died in prison after being convicted of murdering her abusive husband. The past is a blur as her early-onset dementia worsens.
Her quiet life is shattered when strange events unfold at her allotment—shadowy figures, unnatural blooms, and the ghost of her dead friend, Sarah, leaving bloodied warnings. As her dementia worsens, Dennie faces an ancient evil. But with her mind slipping, who will believe her before it’s too late?
About James Brogden: James is a writer of horror and dark fantasy. Originally from Tasmania and the Cumbrian Borders, he now resides in the Midlands in the U.K with his wife and two daughters, where he teaches English. His short stories have been featured in various anthologies and periodicals, from The Big Issue to the BFS Award-winning Alchemy Press.
You shall reap what you sow.
Magnet Sticker
The magnetic sticker is the tagline of Bone Harvest. The eerie words “You shall reap what you sow” was something that jumped out at us, as a must have on our refrigerators.

12 Sub-Genres of Horror: Collectible Graphic Card
The collectible graphic card in the box is another nod to the historical sub-genre. Our design team was fascinated by the headless horseman. The debate was about whether he should be holding his severed head in his hand or should it not be a part of the scene.

p.s. With every box we will custom create a graphic card that represents a sub-genre of horror. We have a surprise for you once you’ve collected our 12 cards. So make sure you hang on to them.
The Nightmare is Real.
Book 2 : Listen To Your Sister by Neena Viel (Exclusive Debut)
We wanted a coup for our 1st horror box. And we got it. The much talked about debut by Neena Viel landed in your home before it was released to the world. Congratulations on being the first horror bookworms in the world to get your hands on this debut gem.

Calla Williams never wanted to be the responsible one, but as guardian to her reckless teenage brother, Jamie, she’s got no choice. Their middle sibling, Dre, was supposed to help—but he’s already bailed. And then there’s The Nightmare—recurring visions of her brothers dying, over and over, no way to stop it. When Jamie’s protest stunt goes horribly wrong, the three siblings go on the run, hiding out in a remote cabin straight out of a slasher movie. But something is waiting for them, and this time, Calla’s nightmare might just come true. She warned them. They really should have listened.
A sharp, terrifying and funny Horror debut. Over 45,000 readers on Goodreads have marked this in their want to read list. .
St. Espresso Coffee : The Neighbourhood Blend

We bring you a coffee from the Sul de Minas region of Brazil. Roasted medium-dark, this blend brings notes of chocolate, almond and caramel with a thick, heavy texture.
The story of this coffee starts in the neighbourhoods of Brazil with a special regional competition hosted by the SMC cooperative, and the winning 20 lots of coffee are pooled together to produce a premium blend of coffee. This blend is then sold on the specialty coffee market helping the farmers get better pay, and you the customer get better coffee.
Silver Metal Bookmark

There’s something about this elegantly crafted feather shaped bookmark. We knew the moment we laid eyes on it that it was going into our 1st box.
If you find your way here, you’re already lost.
Book 3 : Withered Hill by David Barnett
This was the last book we finalised for our 1st box. There was something about this folklore packed dual timeline horror novel that we couldn’t say no to.

If you’ve found your way here, you’re already lost. A year ago, Sophie Wickham woke up naked and alone in Withered Hill, a remote village steeped in eerie folklore. No memory, no way out…just smiling locals and the ominous woods keeping her trapped. Every escape attempt fails. But is it the villagers holding her there, or something far worse?
Meanwhile, in London, another Sophie stumbles through life and too many drinks, bad decisions, and now, unsettling messages warning her that something is coming. The messages push her toward one place: Withered Hill.
David is certainly one of those authors whom you wont get enough of. It is no surprise that he is currently promoting his next release. We have also learnt that he has now signed a 2 book deal with Canelo Publishing. Keep an eye out for him.
Creepier The Better
We love how the tote turned out. After about 10 iterations. Is the hand too bony? too gross? Too Voldemort fleshy? Too skeleton-y. We’re happy with the final outcome. We hope you’re proud to carry it around : )

Important message about your Horror Box subscription
As a practice we will be charging your card a month before box dispatch. We have discovered that a lot of book boxes end up wasting inventory as they are unable to plan their box numbers in advance.
For eg. your card will be charged next on 1st March and your box dispatched before 1st April. This will repeat every other month.
As always we will send you an email 48 hours in advance. You can skip your orders from the email itself in case you feel you’re not ready or even gift it to another horror fan if you want.
If your payment doesn’t go through the first time you will have up to 7 days to correct, it failing which your subscription will be cancelled and passed on to the next person in the waiting list.
And finally…a chance to have your next box FREE!
1. Share your unboxing photos on Instagram using the hashtags #horrorbox and #aboxofstories.
2. Tag and follow us so we don’t miss your post!
3. Make sure your account is set to public to qualify.
You can post as many photos as you like to increase your chances of winning. We’ll be choosing 3 random winners to receive the second box absolutely free! Winners will be announced on 20th February.
We’ll be back in 14-days with some more news from the world of horror and more exclusive bonus content for you.
Once again, thank you for all the love. Did you like this newsletter? Too long? Too short? What can we do to make it better?
Just hit reply and speak your mind. We’re eagerly listening.
